The City of Fort Morgan, Colo., Natural Gas Department recently won an award from the American Public Gas Association (APGA) for 10 years of continuous workplace safety.
The award is based on the number of recordable injuries in man-hours worked. Safety is a vital aspect to natural gas distribution and Fort Morgan Gas Department employees endeavor to make gas delivery as safe as possible.
“Implementing safe utility practices requires the commitment and hard work of the entire department” said Tony Behrends, Fort Morgan gas superintendent. “We’re very proud of our safety record. It’s a reflection of trained and skilled employees who are committed to the highest standards of public service. The gas department will work to continue providing the community with safe and reliable natural gas service.”
Fort Morgan started installing natural gas lines in 1955. Today the city Gas Department maintains 102 miles of gas main lines, 4,271 services and 4,715 gas meters.
The City of Fort Morgan is a member of the National Public Gas Agency, Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska and Nebraska Municipal Power Pool.
